Paying at Australian casinos: what to know
Three things decide how quickly you get your money: the method, the ID check, and the bonus you opted in to.
How to choose a payment method
It works both ways
Pick a method you can cash out to as well; vouchers and some mobile wallets can’t take winnings.
Withdrawal speed
E-wallets, and PayID where offered, pay out the same day; cards and bank transfers take one to five working days.
The bonus terms
Some welcome offers leave out Skrill and Neteller deposits. Check before you pay in.
Your details
Wallets, vouchers and pay-by-bank keep your card number away from the casino.
Your first withdrawal and the ID check
Every licensed casino checks who you are before it pays out the first time. It is the main reason a first withdrawal is slow, and it is easy to get out of the way early.
- A photo ID: passport or driving licence
- A proof of address from the last three months: a bank statement or a utility bill
- For cards, a photo of the front with the middle digits covered
- For e-wallets, a screenshot of the account showing your name
Is it legal, and is it taxed?
The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 stops operators from offering online casino games, including pokies, to people in Australia. It targets operators, not players, and the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) blocks many offshore sites. The casinos we list are licensed abroad, not in Australia, so Australian consumer protections don’t apply to them: we name the licence on every casino we list, and explain what it means on casino licences.
Winnings and tax. For recreational players, gambling winnings are generally not taxed in Australia. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
Staying in control
Most casinos let you set limits and close your account for a while; each review lists the tools a casino has. Set them up before you need them.
- Set a deposit limit when you open the account, if the casino has one
- Decide how long you will play before you start
- Never chase a loss with a bigger deposit
- Free, confidential help: the national helpline on 1800 858 858, every day. More ways to stay in control
Questions about payments
What is the fastest way to get paid at an Australian casino?
E-wallets such as Skrill, Neteller and MiFinity, and PayID where the casino pays out to it: once the casino approves a withdrawal, the money usually arrives the same day. Cards and bank transfers take one to three working days.
Can I withdraw with the method I deposited with?
Usually yes, and most casinos insist on it. Vouchers like Paysafecard are the exception: they work for deposits only.
Do casinos charge fees for deposits or withdrawals?
None of the casinos on our lists do. E-wallets can charge their own fees when you move money in or out of them.
Why does a casino ask for my ID before paying out?
Licensed casinos must confirm who you are before the first withdrawal. Send a photo ID and a proof of address when you sign up, and that first payout isn’t held up.
